We drove from Rotorua to Taupo and stopped to hike around Huka Falls and gaze at the blue, blue , blue Falls. We hiked up the river about 4 miles and the river was alternatingly blue and green. You could see to the bottom of the lake it was so clear.
There were many people at the Falls, but hardly anyone on the trail, so it was so pleasant. We are staying at the DeBretts Spa resort off the lake- ok, well the name sounds better than it is. This is a perfect place for families because there are multiple hot springs- fed pools , a water slide, and bouncing pads. There are options: cabins ,rooms and camping sites. We got a room with the bathroom across the way- step up from camping!! Best deal was the sunset view from our room.
