We had a great flight from Minneapolis to Houston and then about 15 hours to Auckland. We both managed to sleep and with Jane Kise's' recommendation to take "No Jet Lag" tablets created in New Zealand, we were surprisingly refreshed after the flight. We met a couple from Rochester who were on our flight and we compared trip notes. We plan on meeting them in Wellington on March 6 th to go to the Te Papa museum and dinner together.
We spent the day walking Downtown Auckland starting in the harbor, winding up on High Street and Khartoum Place where they honored women getting the right to vote in New Zealand- first country to do that, and ending at St. Kevin' s Arcade. This was a great first day!

This was a highlight for me. Forrest and I had lunch and spent the afternoon with my second cousin, Rob Shannon and his wife, Sue at the Ember Grill in Hamilton. Our grandfathers were brothers. Rob and Sue have two boys , Rick and Mark, who are about Brad and Leah's age. After a long afternoon chatting we pulled ourselves away to get on he road to Rotorua before dark. Forrest did an excellent job driving on the wrong side of the road and we arrived at our Band B around 6:30 pm. We met two couples in the lounge area who were from St Louis and Manhattan Beach. They asked us to join them for dinner on Eat Street and we had a great evening together. They had tickets to Wai-O-Tapu, the geothermal area park and Lady Knox geyser which they weren't going to use so they gave them to us to use the next day. use.
